Hello everyone :)

This is Howard Wicks, a boy from my town who I was close friends with when I was around 8 and he was 10. He was a very outgoing, sporty boy until, on Halloween of 2011, he suffered a massive stroke when he was just 16 and he has been left with locked-in syndrome. The stroke was caused by a blood clot on his brain stem but the cause of it is unknown. Locked-in syndrome is where the person affected is aware of their surroundings and hasn’t changed personality-wise but they cannot do anything physically. Howard is now 17 and has carers helping him everyday. He communicates using an Eye Gaze computer, which tracks his eye movements and allows him to spell things out. He has begun writing his book about his experiences.

So far, donations have allowed him to buy his own vehicle, made specially for him so his family can now drive him back to his hometown, which he has been moved 21 miles away from. Right now, the family is reaching out to people to help with research to find out what could be done to help Howard and what technology and treatments they can get for him. If anyone could donate and reblog to help spread the word about Howard and his condition, it would be appreciated as it would help him to live as normal a life as he possibly can. Please go on the link at the top of this post to find out more about him and donate.

Thank you

I recently did a charity event to raise money for this cause and we managed to get £3,300 which will be a necessity for Howard’s care. Please, even if you don’t donate, just take a moment to read this! :)
